Retro Recipe Redo #5 Chocolate Macaroni And Cheese

Twizzlers are basically PASTA. They are made of water, and flour/starch, but with added sugar and flavorings. So lets turn a savory comfort food into a sweet comfort dessert. The cheddar adds a depth in flavor so its not cloyingly sweet. So good.

Chocolate Macaroni And Cheese

2 packs Chocolate Twizzlers, ends trimmed off, and cut into 3s or 4rs
3 T Flour
3 T butter
2 cups Milk
1/2 pack of Cream Cheese
1 t salt
2 (4 ounce) dark chocolate bar
1 cup very mild white cheddar cheese, packed
1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar (to your taste)
Mixed Roasted Nuts

Preheat an oven to 350 F
Grease a large casserole dish and set aside.

Place a large pot of water on to boil, add 1 t salt... Place a colander in the sink.

Make the cheese sauce first

Melt the butter in another pot on medium heat, add the flour and toast it for 2 mins. Whisk in the milk till smooth, add the sugar, cheeses, salt and chocolate and whisk till smooth and thickened. Turn off the heat and spray the top with butter flavor Pam to prevent a skin from forming. Set aside momentarily...

By now the water should be at a rolling boil... Dump in all the Twizzlers, stir, and bring back to the boil, let it boil for ONLY ONE MINUTE!!!!!!! You only want them to get lightly soft.

Turn off the heat, and immediately dump them in the colander and then immediately dump them in the pot of sauce and stir to combine. add the nuts and then place into the caserolle and sprinkle with  chopped nuts and chopped white chocolate. Bake in the oven till its bubbling and the white chocolate is lightly toasted/melted.

Remove from oven, and let stand till its warm, not hot, serve with whipped cream...
